It Takes a Community to Make a Cricket Club

Updates

Every weekend during summer, our grounds come alive with children pulling on their cricket shirts, grabbing their bats and heading out to play. For some, it is their first season. For others, cricket has already become an important part of their weekend.

Behind every one of those games, training sessions and club activities is something just as important: volunteers.

Like most community sporting clubs, Bangor Barden Ridge Cricket Club relies on people willing to put their hand up and contribute. As our club and our programs continue to grow, we would love to see more parents, grandparents, family members and supporters become involved.

And there is one thing we want everyone to know: you don’t have to be a cricket expert to make a difference.

There’s a Role for Everyone

When people think about volunteering at a cricket club, they often picture coaching a team or standing in the middle umpiring a game. Those roles are certainly important, but they are only part of what makes a club work.

Some volunteer roles need cricket knowledge. Plenty of others don’t.

We need people who are organised and can help coordinate activities or keep things running smoothly. We need people who are creative and can help us with communications, social media, events and new ideas. We need people who enjoy bringing others together and people who are simply happy to be a friendly face for a new family arriving at the club for the first time.

Sometimes helping might mean taking responsibility for something throughout the season. Other times, it can simply mean lending a hand when you are available.

Every contribution counts.

Why Volunteer?

There are lots of reasons to get involved, but perhaps the best one is seeing what community cricket gives back.

There is something incredibly rewarding about seeing a child who was nervous at their first training session grow in confidence, make new friends, learn new skills and discover that they love cricket.

You get to see children celebrate their first runs, take a catch they didn’t think they could take, encourage a teammate or simply walk off the field smiling after a great morning with their friends.

Volunteers help create those moments.

By getting involved, you are also helping cricket continue to grow in our local community. Strong junior programs don’t just happen. They depend on people being prepared to contribute some time, share their skills and help create an environment where children and families want to stay involved.

Building a Club, Not Just Teams

For us, Bangor Barden Ridge Cricket Club is about much more than what happens in the middle of the cricket field.

We want to build a club where families know one another, new members feel welcome and our children grow up feeling part of a community.

That is why volunteering matters so much.

You might bring cricket experience, but equally, you might bring experience from your work, another sport, your school community or simply everyday family life. Good clubs need planners, communicators, organisers, problem-solvers, creative thinkers and enthusiastic helpers just as much as they need cricket coaches.

And volunteering has a habit of giving something back. You meet more people, become connected with other families and get to share in the enjoyment and achievements of the kids along the way.

Could You Put Your Hand Up?

If you have been thinking about becoming more involved, we would love to hear from you.

You don’t need to know exactly what role you want to take on. Start by putting your hand up, telling us a little about what you enjoy or what you are good at, and we can look at where you might be able to help.

Whether you can contribute regularly or simply help from time to time, you can make a difference to our club and to the experience our young cricketers and their families have each summer.

If you would like to get involved with Bangor Barden Ridge Cricket Club, please contact us through our social media channels or through the form on our Contact page.

It takes players to make a team, but it takes people to make a club.

We’d love you to be one of them.
