Privacy policy

How we collect, use and protect your information.

Last updated: 4 November 2026

Bangor Barden Ridge Comets Cricket Club is a not-for-profit community cricket club run by volunteers. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use this website. It is written to be read, not to be waded through, and it describes what the site actually does rather than what websites usually do.

What this policy covers

This policy covers this website only.

Registering to play, paying fees and buying merchandise all happen on PlayHQ, which is Cricket Australia’s national platform. When you follow a registration or shop link you leave this site, and what you enter there is handled by PlayHQ and Cricket Australia under their own privacy policies. We never see payment details.

Information the club collects away from this website, such as on paper at a sign-on day or in conversation with a team manager, is also outside this policy.

What we collect when you use the contact form

The contact form is the only place on this site where you can give us information. It asks for your first and last name, your email address, what your enquiry is about and your message. A phone number is optional.

We use what you send only to answer you. We do not add you to a mailing list, we do not use it for marketing, and we do not sell it or give it to anyone for their own purposes.

Who receives what you send

Messages sent through the contact form go by email to members of the club committee.

Most enquiries go to three people: the President, the Secretary and the Vice President.

If you choose “Grievance / child protection” as the subject, your message goes only to the President and to our Child Protection Information Officer. It is not sent to the Secretary. This is deliberate, so that a concern about a child reaches the fewest people who can act on it.

You do not have to use the form at all. If you would rather speak to one person, our Child Protection Information Officer’s name, email and phone number are on the safety page, and the rest of the committee’s contact details are on the committee page.

How long we keep it

A message sent through the form becomes an ordinary email in the committee’s inboxes, and it stays there as long as the club needs it to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up. Committee members change over, and inboxes are handed on with the role.

If you would like us to delete your enquiry once it is dealt with, just ask.

Cookies and tracking

This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people find useful. That is the only analytics here. There is no advertising on this site and no advertising tracking of any kind.

Google Analytics puts a cookie in your browser. Its only job is to tell a returning visitor from a new one, so that ten visits from you are not counted as ten different people. It stays for up to two years unless you clear it.

What it records is which pages you look at and roughly when, the kind of device and browser you are using, the town or city your connection appears to come from, and how you arrived, such as from a search or a link on another site. It does not record your name, your email address, or anything you type into the contact form, and it does not know who you are. Your device’s address is used to work out the approximate location and is then discarded rather than stored.

This information goes to Google and is held on Google’s systems, which are outside Australia. The club sees totals and trends. It cannot pick out an individual person.

The club has deliberately switched off Google’s advertising features. Nothing collected here is used to build an advertising profile, to estimate your age or interests, or to follow you from one device to another.

If you would rather not be counted, your browser’s privacy settings, any ad or tracker blocker, or Google’s own opt-out add-on will all stop it. The site works exactly the same either way.

One other thing is stored in your browser, and it is not tracking. If the club puts an announcement banner at the top of the site and you close it, your browser remembers that so the banner does not come back on every page. That note is stored in your own browser, it says nothing about you, and it never reaches us. Clearing your browser data removes it.

Information collected automatically

Like any website, this one is served by computers that keep short-term technical records. Our hosting provider and the server that stores the club’s photographs record things like the address of the device requesting a page, the page requested and the time. These are ordinary server logs, kept briefly for security and to keep the site working, and the club does not read them to learn about visitors.

Fonts

The typefaces this site uses are loaded from Google Fonts. That means your browser makes a request to Google to fetch them, and Google receives your device’s address as part of that request. Google states that it does not use Google Fonts requests to build advertising profiles. If you would rather that did not happen, blocking fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com will leave the site working and looking slightly different.

Photographs

This site publishes photographs of club members, including junior players, in the gallery and across the site.

We do not publish the names of junior players alongside their photographs, and we do not publish team lists naming children. If you or your child appear in a photograph on this site and you would like it removed, contact us and we will take it down. You do not have to give a reason, and we will not ask for one.

Children

This website is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information that identifies them through it. The visit counting described under Cookies and tracking happens for everyone who comes to the site, children included, but it does not identify anybody, and Google’s advertising features are switched off, so no child is profiled or followed across other websites. If a child has sent us something through the contact form and a parent or guardian would like it deleted, contact us and we will delete it.

Other websites

This site links to PlayHQ, to the associations we play in, to our sponsors and to organisations named on our safety pages. Once you follow a link you are on someone else’s site, with their privacy policy and their practices, and we have no control over what they collect.

Keeping your information safe

The form is sent over an encrypted connection, and the email it generates goes to the committee’s club email addresses. No system is perfectly secure, but we only collect what we need to answer you, and we keep it in as few places as possible.

The club’s website is built and maintained by Croc Digital, who have the access needed to run the site and who handle any information only on the club’s instructions.

Seeing or correcting what we hold

You can ask us what information the club holds about you from this website, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Contact the club secretary and we will come back to you.

If you are not happy

If you think we have mishandled your information, please tell the club secretary first, so the club has a chance to put it right. If you are not satisfied with how the club responds, you can seek advice from the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy whenever the site changes in a way that affects it, and the date at the top shows when it last changed. If the club adds other services that collects information about visitors, this page will say so before it does.

Contact

Questions about this policy, or about information the club holds, can go to the club secretary at secretary@cometscricket.com.au, or through the contact form.
